A Brief Introduction
Founded in 1919 by the famous patriotic educators Zhang Boling and Yan Xiu, Nankai University, located in Tianjin, is a key multidisciplinary and research-oriented university directly administered by the Ministry of Education. In 2017, the university was selected to be on the list of 42 universities and colleges that would participate in the country’s “Double First-Class” Initiative (the construction plan of world-class universities and world-class disciplines). Taking “Dedication to Public Interests, Acquisition of All-round Capability, Aspiration for Progress with Each Passing Day” as the school motto, Nankai University has cultivated a large number of outstanding talents including the founding Premier of the People’s Republic of China Zhou Enlai, the famous mathematician Chern Shiing-Shen, the physicist Wu Ta-You, and the playwright Cao Yu.
In the past 100 years, Nankai University has gradually constructed an operating pattern of “a university with three campuses” and featured a balance between the humanities and the sciences, a solid foundation and a combination of practicality and creativity. Currently, the university occupies an area of 3,750,000 m2. The university has 26 academic colleges, with disciplines covering literature, social science, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, art, etc.
Nankai University is equipped with a strong world-class faculty. Among the 2,082 faculty members, 812 are professors and 834 are associate professors, including 20 members of the Chinese Academy of Science, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the Third World Academy of Science. Currently, the university has a total enrollment of more than 28,000 students, including 16,000 undergraduates and 12,000 master’s and doctoral students. In recent years, Nankai University’s international influence and international education levels have been increasing. There are now more than 400 full-time and part-time foreign experts, and more than 2,100 international students from 95 countries pursuing long-term study at Nankai.
1. Eligibility
Applicants must have a master’s degree and be healthy, non-Chinese citizens and foreign passport holders, with no criminal record in China.

3. Length of Study
The length of study for PhD programs is at least 4 years. The maximum extension available (including time spent studying abroad and time in which your studies are officially paused) can bring the total length of study to no more than 6 years.

6.Application Process and Required Materials
(1) Please register at the website: //nankai.17gz.org/, and complete the online application. Please choose Self-sponsored (Other colleges);
(2) Upload scanned documents of relevant materials as required (please find the List of Required Materials in Attachment 1);
(3) Submit the application form and pay the registration fee;
(4) Regularly check your email for personal application updates in case any changes or supplements of your materials are required.
7. Scholarships
Nankai University will directly consider the applicants’ materials, education background, school performance and special abilities as the basis for scholarship selection. As for “Tianjin Government Scholarship” and “Study-at-Nankai Scholarship”, applicants do not need to apply again.

Scholarship value: tuition allowance. Please note: this scholarship doesn’t need to be applied for independently. Students will be selected to win this scholarship once a year.

8. Assessment and Admission
Admission results will be announced on the official website of the International Academic Exchanges of Nankai University.
The information in the application materials should be identical with those in the passport and the valid visa or residence permit used for application.After the evaluation of applicants’ application materials,academic colleges will decide whether to add an additional examination or interview based on the applicants educational backgrounds and majors applied for. Specific dates will be announced by the department of the major.
The applicants who pass the screening of application materials and the material evaluation will be admitted by Nankai University. The admission committee of the Nankai University will re-check the information and materials supplied by the applicant. If any sort of fraud, inconsistency,or violation of rules is discovered and verified, the applicant will be disqualified from admission. Admission results will be announced in the registration system or mailed to the applicant.

9. Payment Standards and Methods
The cost of tuition in indicated by the“Listing of 2022 Nankai University Master’s Programs Available for International Students” and the“Listing of 2022 Nankai University PhD Programs Available for International Students”.
(3)Place of Payment
Please submit the fee to the Nankai University Registry (the ground floor of the Nankai University Student Activity Center). Making a payment on behalf of someone else is allowed.
(4) Medical insurance fee: CNY 1000 per student per year
According to the regulations of Ministry of Education of P. R. China,international students must purchase comprehensive medical insurance for foreign students while they are studying in China.International students may purchase insurance the day of registration at the registration site. Uninsured students will not be registered. Information concerning insurance for international students can be found at the website://www.lxbx.net/.
10. Accommodation
The standard pricing of on-campus accommodation for international students is 1500 RMB/student/month to 3000 RMB/student/month. There are two options available. (New students must live on-campus for their first year.)
I. On-campus accommodation: On-campus accommodation is limited and is provided on a first come, first serve basis.

Attachment 1: List of Required Materials
(1) Notarized diploma of highest level of education obtained. Applicants expecting to graduate this academic year must submit an official document issued by their current school to prove their current student status and expected graduation date.
(2) Complete academic transcripts of the highest level of education.
(3) Personal Statement, including a study or research plan, financial situation, reasons for scholarship application, honors and awards, personal strengths, etc. (no less than 800 words).
(4) Two letters of recommendation from professors or associate professors. The letters should be written in Chinese or English; the phone number and email address of the person issuing the recommendation should be included.
(5) Applicants should submit a HSK certificate (Level 4 or above). Applicants who don’t meet the language requirements must apply for one year of Chinese language studies before entering their major studies.
(6) Foreigner Physical Examination Form. The physical examinations must cover all of the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete forms, forms without the signature of the attending physician or the official stamp of the hospital, or forms without a sealed photograph of the applicant are considered invalid. Please carefully plan your physical examination schedule as the result will be valid for only 6 months.
(7) Certificate of no criminal record issued by the relevant local authority.
(8) Photocopy of passport (ordinary passport and must be valid until April 1st , 2021 or later).
(9) The application fee receipt or payment voucher.

(10) Other materials that can prove the applicants' learning ability and comprehensive abilities, such as award certificates in sports or the arts, specialty certificates, published papers, admission notices issued by other universities, etc.
